Preston 1 Forest 0

Firstly, hats off to the 658 hardy souls that made the trip to Deepdale.

I suppose, by all accounts, Preston could be accused of committing a smash and grab at their own place after the performance we put in, but let’s not kid ourselves, we have (at the moment) the innate ability to create a bag full of chances with no end product. Conceding early and chasing the game for the remaining 80 to 85 minutes would be our Modus Operandi.

Shots straight at the keeper, hitting the woodwork and a disallowed goal; all in the first half. When it’s not going your way, it’s not going your way. There’s been 6 managerial casualties so far this season in the Championship, 4 of which have been at clubs in the bottom 8. It seems to be a case of “when” not “if” our illustrious leader will blink and make it an eighth managerial appointment since July 2012 (I’m including Steve Cotterill in the list). But, of course, the braver decision would be to stick with the game plan and create some sort of stability at the club. Let’s see where the ego, Twitter and the Derby result takes us.

And finally, you’ve got to admire the optimism of Mr Dougie – “I don’t see us anywhere near the relegation battle.” That puts even my high levels of optimism to shame! Perhaps I should be wearing his Garibaldi Tinted Spectacles, because it feels like mine are slipping ever-so-slightly. Let’s hope they’re put firmly back in place come Friday night.
