I didn’t go to the game, but 2001 magnificent fans did.

I followed it on Twitter instead.

I’ve read a couple of match reports.

Just to see if they’re saying the same kind of thing I’m thinking about – with regards to the stuff that transpired on the pitch.

They sort of did.

That end of season malaise – the one that creeps up on you when your team are in the wrong half of the table – helps to stultify the ambition.

It’s not that I don’t want to write about the game.

It’s just there’s not really a lot to write about.

Aside the second half display against Brighton, there hasn’t been too much to bask in since Mr Dougie was shown the tradesman’s exit and Messrs. Williams and Reid took the bull by the horns.

In fairness, Saturday’s goalless draw did sound like a fairly good performance and if Ryan Mendes could finish, maybe it would be a different story. But as it was, the actual highlight of the whole proceedings was Neil Warnock being quite gracious about us and not quite understanding how we haven’t garnered more points this season. Astonishing. Maybe he’s mellowing in his dotage?

Mind you, he also said “I don’t think there is anybody else who can touch me at this level. My record is as good as anybody’s,” so I’ll leave you to make up your own mind.

Oh and everybody’s favourite left back – Danny Fox – had another good game in the centre of defence. Maybe Mr Dougie didn’t pick him because Dani Pinillos and Bojan Jokic are better suited in that position? And maybe he didn’t get a chance to play for most of the season because Matt Mills, Michael Mancienne and Jack Hobbs are more proven centre backs than he is? Injuries have looked favourably upon the magnificent-bearded-one of late and fair play to him for grasping his chance with both hands and producing a couple of good performances. Let us not get bogged down in the minutiae now.

Anyway. Onwards and upwards. Mathematically speaking, we could finish with 59 points and end up in the top half of the table. Wouldn’t that be exciting?
